The color of the Serpae Tetra body is ranges from a bright red to reddish brown. There is a black spot found behind the gill cover. This spot generally becomes smaller as the fish gets older. The Serpae Tetra dorsal fin is black with white fringing. It is quite a tall fin as well. Sometimes the fin has a red hue to it, although this can differ among the species.
